Dr. Trucco’s program of research is grounded in developmental psychopathology. Her work examines the etiology of substance use from a social ecological perspective. This involves delineating risk and protective factors for the development of adolescent problem behavior and substance use across multiple levels of analysis, including biological factors (genetics), social environments (peers, parents, neighborhoods), and individual characteristics (temperament, personality). Namely, she is interested in examining genetic and personality factors that increase or decrease susceptibility to parenting practices and peer influence for engaging in substance use. Dr. Trucco also investigates developmental pathways to substance use onset through genetic factors, temperament, externalizing behavior, and social influences. The primary aim of this programmatic work is to uniquely contribute to the improvement of existing prevention programs for youth.
